The convict, Kamruj Zaman alias Hurairah or Kamaruddin from Erakapili village in Assam’s Hojai district, was arrested in 2018 for conspiring to raise a module of the banned outfit in the state during 2017-18. Zaman was awarded three separate sentences, with maximum being life imprisonment under Section 18 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. He was sentenced to five years’ simple imprisonment each under UAPA sections 18B and 38, read with IPC Section 120B. All sentences will run concurrently.
