Delhi blast

SRINAGAR: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) condemned Sunday the Nov 10 blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, saying the medical fraternity stands firmly against violence and any attempt to misuse the profession for destructive ends. The statement by DAK — Kashmir’s largest doctors’ forum — came a day after Medical Faculty Association (MFA) of Srinagar’s Government Medical and Dental College became the first doctors’ forum from the Valley to issue such a condemnation. Three Kashmiri doctors are among those arrested over the blast in which 15 people lost their lives.Describing the blast as a “horrifying act of violence” DAK president Dr Mohammad Yousuf Tak said “our hearts go out to the families who are grieving” “Doctors have always worked with humanity, compassion and service above everything, and we will continue to follow these values in every situation. Such acts of terror cannot break our determination to protect and serve our society and our nation,” Tak added, stressing that law should take a “strict course”.Dr. Owaiss H Dar, president of Society of Consultant Doctors J&K, echoed the outrage, saying the medical community is deeply disturbed by the alleged involvement of individuals from the profession. “We have full faith in the justice system and demand strict action against those found guilty. Violence in any form cannot weaken our resolve to serve humanity with dignity,” Dar said.In its condemnation on Saturday, MFA had described the alleged involvement of medical professionals in the blast as troubling, “terming it a desecration of the sanctity associated with the practice of medicine”.
