J&K assembly’s budget session from February 2

JAMMU: J&K assembly’s budget session will begin on February 2 in Jammu with an address by lieutenant-governor Manoj Sinha to the House.CM Omar Abdullah, who also holds charge of the finance department in the National Conference (NC) government, will present the budget for 2026-27 later in the session.“In exercise of powers conferred upon me under Section 18(1) of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, (I) do hereby summon the legislative assembly for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to meet on 2nd of Feb, 2026, at 10:00am,” a release issued by Sinha’s late Saturday stated.This will be Sinha’s third address to the assembly. The first was on Nov 4, 2024, during a brief, five-day session of the assembly in Srinagar, just after the elections in Sept-Oct that year. The second was on March 3, 2025, marking the first budget session of the NC government.For CM Omar, this will be his second budget. He presented his first on March 7, 2025, for 2025-26. This time, discussions are on at various levels, including the Union finance ministry. The Omar-led finance department has already kicked off budgetary meetings within the government.
