Japan done, next stop China: PM Modi wraps up two-day visit; shares key highlights

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday concluded his two-day visit to Japan and headed to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet.In a social media post on X, the prime minister thanked his Japanese counterpart and said that the visit will be remembered “for the productive outcomes which will benefit the people of our nations.” “This visit to Japan will be remembered for the productive outcomes which will benefit the people of our nations. I thank PM Ishiba, the Japanese people and the Government for their warmth,” he added.On PM Modi’s two-day visit, India and Japan signed six agreements, seven Memorandum of Understandings, and made eight new announcements.One of the most significant announcements was Japan’s commitment of JPY 10 trillion of private investment into India over the next ten years.Earlier in the day, PM Modi and Shigeru Ishiba also travelled from Tokyo to Sendai in a bullet train.PM Modi also met governors of 16 Japanese prefectures in Tokyo and called for stronger state-prefecture cooperation under the India-Japan special strategic and global partnership, the ministry of external affairs saidOn Friday, PM Modi addressed the India-Japan economic forum, where he pitched for a partnership in the areas of manufacturing, technology, innovation, green energy, and skill development. He said that the world is not just watching India but also counting on it.He echoed Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s remarks at the forum and said, “Japan’s excellence and India’s scale can create a perfect partnership.””Be it solar cells or green hydrogen, there are immense possibilities of partnership. An agreement has been signd between India and Japan on Joint Credit Mechanism. Taking advantage of this, cooperation can be done in building a clean and green future,” PM Modi said.PM Modi also met former Japanese PMs Yoshihide Suga and Fumio Kishida in Tokyo.PM Modi said that with the former Japanese PM Yoshihide, he discussed ways to deepen India-Japan cooperation.”I had a very good meeting with Mr. Yoshihide Suga, former Prime Minister of Japan and Chairperson of the Japan-India Association. We spoke about the many dimensions of India-Japan cooperation and how we can further deepen it. Our discussions covered how to build closer collaboration, including in technology, AI, trade, investment and beyond,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
