J&K: Police attach property of Pak-based handler in Poonch; UAPA invoked

Police on Thursday attached an immovable property belonging to a Pakistan-based terror handler and launch commander of banned outfits in the Mendhar area of Poonch district, officials said. The action was taken under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.The attached property includes four marlas and two sarsai of agricultural land located in Nar village of the Nakka Majhari area. Officials said the land belongs to Rafiq Nai, also known as Sultan, a local resident who is currently operating from Pakistan.

According to investigators, Nai functions as a handler and launch commander for the banned Tahreek-ul-Mujahideen and the Jammu Kashmir Ghaznavi Force.Officials said investigations have revealed Nai’s involvement in facilitating infiltration, smuggling of weapons and narcotics, and attempts to revive terrorist activity across the Poonch–Rajouri sector. He has been declared a designated terrorist and is wanted in connection with nine criminal cases.The property attachment was carried out by a joint team of Mendhar police and the Revenue Department. Officials said all legal procedures were followed and prior approval was obtained from the competent authority. The market value of the attached land is estimated to be around Rs 10 lakh.
