NEW DELHI: The US Embassy in India has shared a year-end recap highlighting major moments that shaped India–US relations in 2025, saying it is looking forward to another year of “even stronger” ties between the two countries. In a post on X, the Embassy wrote, “New year loading… but first, the rewind! Take a look back at the top moments that shaped the US-India partnership this year, while we get ready for another year of even stronger US India ties.” The post was accompanied by a video showcasing key diplomatic engagements and agreements over the past year. The video includes visuals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting US President Donald Trump at the White House during Modi’s visit to Washington in early 2025. The two leaders are seen interacting at the White House, underlining the importance both sides placed on high-level engagement despite a challenging global environment. The montage also features external affairs minister S Jaishankar’s meeting with US secretary of state Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. One of the major highlights shown is the signing of a 10-year update of the Framework for the US–India Major Defence Partnership, reflecting continued cooperation in defence and security. Another key moment in the video is US Vice President JD Vance’s visit to India. The footage shows Prime Minister Modi hosting Vance, his wife Usha Vance and their children at his official residence, signalling the emphasis placed on people-to-people and leadership-level ties. The video further highlights collaboration in space and earth science, including the launch of the NISAR satellite. It also notes the appointment of Sergio Gor as the next US Ambassador to India under the Trump administration. The Embassy’s post comes against the backdrop of a complex relationship that has seen both cooperation and friction through the year. While strategic engagement has continued, trade tensions and sharp rhetoric have at times strained ties. Despite this, both sides have repeatedly stressed the long-term importance of the partnership.Earlier this month, Prime Minister Modi and President Trump spoke over the phone to review bilateral relations and discuss regional and global developments. After the call, PM Modi said on X, “Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity”.The two leaders reviewed progress under the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and discussed cooperation in critical technologies, energy, defence and security. They also underlined the need to maintain momentum in efforts to expand bilateral trade under the India–US COMPACT framework.
