India-Jordan ties: PM Modi concludes landmark visit; thanks Crown Prince for airport farewell

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday concluded his landmark two-day visit to Jordan, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He thanked Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II for personally bidding him farewell at the airport, calling the visit “immensely productive”.Sharing departure photographs on X, the Prime Minister said the visit had further strengthened India-Jordan ties across key sectors, while also acknowledging the rare diplomatic gesture shown by the Jordanian leadership. In his post, PM Modi wrote: “My visit to Jordan has been immensely productive. I thank His Majesty King Abdullah II and the people of Jordan for their exceptional friendship.Our discussions have strengthened the India-Jordan partnership across key areas such as renewable energy, water management, digital transformation, cultural exchanges and heritage cooperation.

The outcomes we have achieved together will open new avenues for progress and prosperity for our citizens.Am also thankful to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II for coming to the airport as I leave Jordan.”Earlier during the visit, the Prime Minister held delegation-level talks with King Abdullah II at the Husseiniya Palace in Amman, where both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional developments, including Gaza and counter-terrorism cooperation. PM Modi praised Jordan’s firm stand against terrorism and extremism, recalling past engagements with the King on global platforms. He also highlighted Jordan’s constructive role in promoting regional stability and moderation.During his stay, PM Modi described his interaction with the Crown Prince as meaningful and forward-looking. In another post, the Prime Minister said he was impressed by the Crown Prince’s contributions to youth development, sports, space, innovation and social welfare.“During my visit to Jordan, I had the honor of an extended meeting with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II. His passion for Jordan’s progress is clearly evident… which is truly commendable. I wish him every success in his endeavors aimed at bolstering Jordan’s path of growth,” PM Modi wrote.In a rare gesture underscoring the warmth of ties, the Crown Prince personally drove PM Modi to the Jordan Museum, where the Prime Minister was briefed on the country’s history and cultural heritage. PM Modi later thanked the Crown Prince for presenting various aspects of Jordan’s heritage during the visit. This is Prime Minister Modi’s first full-fledged bilateral visit to Jordan. He had earlier transited through the country in February 2018 while en route to the State of Palestine.“Even though it was a transit visit, exceptional courtesies were accorded to him by His Majesty the King, making it more than just a transit visit. The current full bilateral visit is taking place after an interval of 37 years. India and Jordan share warm and friendly relations marked by mutual trust and goodwill. The relationship spans political, economic and defence cooperation, as well as strong people-to-people ties,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra said ahead of the visitIndia and Jordan maintain strong economic and strategic ties, with bilateral trade nearing USD 2.9 billion and cooperation spanning fertilisers, pharmaceuticals, IT, healthcare, defence and renewable energy. Jordan is also a key supplier of phosphates and potash to India.The visit to Jordan was the first leg of PM Modi’s four-day, three-nation tour. He will next travel to Ethiopia, followed by Oman, as India seeks to deepen engagement with partners across West Asia and Africa. Go to Source
