The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further advancement of the southwest monsoon over several parts of the country in the coming days.In its June 4 bulletin, the weather agency predicted widespread rainfall activity and issued alerts for thunderstorms, heavy to very heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds in several regions through the coming week.North India

  • June 5

    Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand: Rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely.
    Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh: Thunderstorms with gusty winds of up to 50–60 kmph expected.
    Uttarakhand: Isolated heavy rainfall likely.
    Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand: Hailstorm activity possible.

  • June 6

    Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand: Rain and thunderstorms likely to continue.
    Himachal Pradesh: Thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph likely.
    Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and East Uttar Pradesh: Gusty winds of 40–50 kmph expected along with thunderstorm activity.

South IndiaFairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is likely across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep during the period.

  • Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to witness very heavy rainfall during June 5–7, with heavy rainfall continuing during June 8–10.
  • Kerala and Coastal Karnataka are expected to receive heavy rainfall from June 5–10.
  • Telangana is likely to experience heavy rainfall during June 5–8.
  • Heavy rainfall is also likely over North and South Interior Karnataka on multiple days through June 10.
  • Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may receive heavy rainfall during June 9–10.

West IndiaKonkan & Goa, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during the period.

  • Heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan & Goa from June 5–10.
  • Madhya Maharashtra may witness heavy rainfall on June 5 and again during June 7–10.
  • Thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely across several parts of the region.

Central India

  • East and West Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
  • Thundersquall conditions with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, are likely over East and West Madhya Pradesh on June 5.
  • Chhattisgarh may continue to experience thunderstorms and squally weather through June 6.

East IndiaIsolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is likely over Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim through June 8, Jharkhand through June 7.

  • Andaman & Nicobar Islands are likely to experience gusty winds of 40–50 kmph during June 5–8 and light rainfall today.
  • Bihar on June 5 and again during June 7–10, and Odisha during June 5–10.
