NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janta Party MP Anurag Thakur on Thursday asked the Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla whether he had allowed e-cigarettes inside the House, accusing the Trinamool Congress MPs of “continuously vaping” in the Parliament.“I just want to request something so that the House knows. E-Cigarettes are banned in the country. Have you (Speaker) allowed it in the House? TMC MPs are using e-cigarettes in the House,” Thakur said.Responding to the question, Birla said that no such permission had been given and vowed to take “strict action” such things “come to light.”“It has not been permitted. All members are expected to follow the rules. If such things come to light, I will take strict action,” Lok Sabha Speaker said. The TMC has not made any comments on the matter yet.Several BJP MPs pressed for action against the opposition member, prompting loud protests in the House. Speaker Om Birla appealed for calm and reminded members to uphold parliamentary decorum, adding that he would act if a formal written complaint was submitted, according to news agency PTI.E-cigarettes, he noted, have been prohibited in India for several years.
