NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday launched India’s first national-level Organised Crime Network Database (OCND), a landmark initiative designed to disrupt and dismantle criminal syndicates that pose a threat to internal security. The database was unveiled at the Anti-Terror Conference–2025, a two-day annual event organised by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).Developed by the NIA in close coordination with state police forces and the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID), the OCND is an AI-powered analytical platform designed to enable instant retrieval of information on organised crime networks. The database integrates FIRs, charge sheets, dossiers and other critical inputs related to organised criminals from across states, allowing real-time access for investigating agencies.“Organised crime syndicates usually operate across multiple states, leading to fragmented intelligence spread across jurisdictions. No single state police force had complete details of their activities, which criminals often exploited,” NIA officials told ANI.Another official described the platform as functioning “like ChatGPT”, enabling investigators to immediately access comprehensive information on organised criminals. In addition to profiling details, the database includes voice-matching capabilities and fingerprint data, significantly aiding agencies in swift identification and action, the official added. The NIA will act as the central facilitator of the OCND, ensuring the availability of verified and actionable intelligence to investigating agencies nationwide.
