Fallen liquor truck uncorks loot in Gujarat

Representative file photo

A truck carrying a large consignment of liquor overturned at Sanand in Gujarat Tuesday, triggering chaos as the bottles spilled onto the road and people in the dry state began looting them before police could secure the spot. The truck driver fled after the accident. Police have launched a search and are trying to establish the source of the consignment and its intended destination.Preliminary probe indicated the vehicle was being driven at high speed and overturned on hitting a bump. Within minutes, a crowd gathered, picked up liquor bottles and fled. Cops arrived later and dispersed the crowd, collecting and seizing the remaining stock with help from locals and having it ferried in another vehicle to a nearby police station. By the time the situation was brought under control, an unspecified quantity of liquor had been spirited away.
