Evening news wrap: SC orders CBI probe into Karur stampede; Netanyahu hails Trump for Gaza ceasefire & more

The Supreme Court on Monday ordered a CBI probe into the stampede at actor Vijay’s TVK rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, appointing a three-member panel led by retired judge Ajay Rastogi to supervise the investigation. The US-brokered Israel-Hamas ceasefire saw the first hostage and prisoner exchanges, as President Donald Trump arrived in Israel to meet families of hostages and discuss reconstruction, receiving a standing ovation in the Knesset.In Bihar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav termed the Delhi court’s directive to frame charges against him and his parents in the IRCTC scam a “political vendetta” ahead of assembly polls, vowing to fight the case. Supreme Court orders CBI probe into Karur Stampede case

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the CBI to probe the stampede at actor Vijay’s TVK rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, emphasising that citizens are entitled to a “fair and impartial investigation”. The state government told the court that the victim’s family denied filing the petition that prompted the CBI probe, calling it a fraud, but the court said this would not affect its interim order.
