‘Routine sortie’: IAF on what led to An-32 aircraft crash in Assam that killed 5

The Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that five personnel were killed after an AN-32 transport aircraft crashed during a routine sortie near Jorhat, Assam, on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Prashant Singh, Shubham Kumar, Jitendra Sharma, Khemaram Kumawat and Danish Alam. According to the IAF, the aircraft crashed outside the airstrip during the sortie. Centre appoints Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth as next Chief of Army Staff

The Centre on Saturday named Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff, with effect from June 30, 2026. Commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986 after graduating from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Lt Gen Seth has served in the Indian Army for nearly four decades.
