Engineer Rashid writes to Rajnath, seeks compensation for Armymen’s families

SRINAGAR: Awami Itihaad Party MP from Baramulla Engineer Rashid has written to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh seeking compensation and rehabilitation for the families of two Army porters who died on duty after slipping in a gorge in the district.Party spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said on Monday the MP asked the defence ministry to frame a comprehensive policy to ensure job security and welfare of porters working with the armed forces in high altitude and difficult terrain. He said those who lose their lives while performing such duties should be treated on a par with Agniveer soldiers.“The families of the deceased porters need full and concrete financial support. It is the duty of the ministry to ensure their proper rehabilitation,” Nabi said quoting the letter.
