Delhi blast triggers political firestorm: Opposition seeks Amit Shah’s resignation; BJP hits back

NEW DELHI: A day after a powerful car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort killed at least 12 people and injured several others, opposition parties have launched scathing attacks on the Centre. Leading the charge, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai demanded home minister Amit Shah’s resignation, calling him “directly responsible” for the tragedy. “Who will take responsibility for this incident? Amit Shah is directly responsible for this. He should immediately resign and go home. This is the government’s failure. The home minister was busy in elections yesterday,” Rai told news agency ANI.He also accused the Centre of ignoring past terror warnings, citing Pulwama and Pahalgam attacks and said “the whole nation is tense while innocent people continue to die.””They claim that no infiltrators are entering, so how are incidents occurring. A few days ago, our children were murdered in Pahalgam. They are witnessing what happened, yet they continue to say they will rectify everything. Earlier, the incident occurred in Pulwama just before the 2019 elections. No investigations have been carried out on it. The whole nation is tense; many innocent people have died,” Rai said. Echoing similar criticism, Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge lashed out at the union home minister, terming him “the most incompetent Home Minister in independent India.” Speaking to reporters, Kharge said, “Amit Shah is the most incompetent Home Minister in independent India. How many more people should lose their lives? Delhi, Manipur, Pulwama, Pehalgam – Have we got answers? Being a Home Minister he goes on election stage and says that Bangladeshis are infiltrating into India. Who is responsible for it? Is the opposition responsible for it?” The Congress leader added: “There is no accountability. He (Shah) is often referred to as the modern Sardar Patel, and repeatedly claims are made about a 56-inch chest. How many more people have to lose their lives before he resigns?” He also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his silence and alleging he was “afraid to act against Amit Shah.””Why is Modi afraid to act against Amit Shah? Is he worried that his Gujarat secrets will come out in the open? There is a limit for everything, they are testing the patience of the people. In any other country, the Home Minister would have resigned by now. How many more people should die? There is intelligence failure… He should resign immediately,” Kharge said. In a post on X, Karnataka minister wrote: “Mananiya HM @AmitShah has so far: Failed Kashmir, Failed Manipur, Failed Delhi, Failed Pulwama, Failed Pahalgam, Failed UP, and failed the country… There has perhaps never been a Home Minister in India whose tenure has seen so many breakdowns of law and order.”

.

From the Trinamool Congress, MP Mahua Moitra hit out at Amit Shah over what she called repeated failures in maintaining internal security. In a sharp post on X, she wrote, “India needs a capable Home Minister, not a full-time Hate Campaign Minister. Isn’t it @AmitShah’s duty to protect both our borders as well as our cities? Why is he failing so spectacularly on all counts?”

.

.

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also condemned the incident, describing it as a “grave lapse in internal security.” In a post on X, Banerjee wrote, “It is extremely distressing that such an incident has taken place in the heart of our national capital. Delhi Police, which operates under the Union Home Ministry, bears primary responsibility for maintaining law and order. How, then, are such grave lapses being allowed to occur?”

.

.

He called for a “time-bound, impartial probe under court supervision” to ensure accountability.Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Nana Patole from Maharashtra held the Centre responsible for Delhi’s security failure, saying the PM Modi’s government “must answer why the capital is unsafe.” He said, “If our capital, Delhi, is not safe, the so-called ‘56-inch chest’ must answer for this. The Centre has failed the nation.”

BJP hits back, slams opposition for ‘Politicising a tragedy’

As the Opposition continued to attack the government over the Delhi blast, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly countered the criticism, accusing rival parties of exploiting a national tragedy for political gain.BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said the Opposition should be supporting security agencies instead of questioning them at a time when investigations are still underwayIn a post on X, he wrote: “The problem with our Opposition and the loony far-Left ecosystem is that they simply do not know how to stand with the country in times of need. Instead of supporting security agencies, they are busy questioning the government even as evidence points to a massive crackdown on terror modules and major strikes being foiled.” Malviya further alleged that the Congress was acting irresponsibly and undermining national unity. He further wrote: “If being shameless and working against national interest had a face, it would look exactly like the Congress.”The blast occurred around 7 pm on Monday at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro Station. It tore through a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car, damaged nearby vehicles and led to a nationwide security alert. Go to Source
