CWC meet: Congress leaders huddle up in Delhi; Siddaramaiah, DKS and Tharoor in attendance

NEW DELHI: Top Congress leaders huddled up in Delhi after key meeting of working committee (CWC) was intervened to deliberate the current political situation and party’s plan of action against the government. This is the first meeting after the grand-old-party suffered a drubbing in the Bihar assembly election in November. The meeting was chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, while senior party leaders including Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha and former party president Rahul Gandhi, besides chief ministers of the Congress-ruled states of Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh.Presidents of Pradesh Congress Committees (PCC) are also present at the meeting.According to news agency PTI, the party is expected to finalise its agitation plan against the government over the repeal of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005.The Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill to replace the UPA-era MGNREGA was passed in Parliament in the recently concluded Winter session and President Droupadi Murmu has already given her assent to it. The meeting also comes ahead of next year’s assembly polls in Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.Shashi Tharoor attends meetAmid the ongoing tussle with Congress leadership, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor also attended the CWC meeting.Recently, Tharoor has made headlines for skipping Congress meetings and praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address at the Ramnath Goenka Lecture. He had also skipped Congress’s ‘Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod’ rally at the Ramlila Maidan and a meeting of Congress Lol Sabha MPs chaired by Rahul Gandhi.Digvijay Singh calls for reformsAmid the ongoing CWC meet, veteran Congress leader Digvijay Singh urged Rahul Gandhi to reform in the grand-old-party. He however said that it is not easy to “convice” him.In a social media post on X, Singh said, “Rahul Gandhi ji you are absolutely “Bang On” in matters of Socio-Economic Issues. Full Marks.””But now please look at Congress also. Like Election Commission need reforms, so does Indian National Congress. You have started with “Sanghatan Srijan” but we need more pragmatic decentralised functioning. I am sure you would do it because I know you can do it. Only problem is that it is not easy to “Convince” you!! “BJP attacks RahulMeanwhile, Bhartiya Janata Party questioned whether the party will hold Rahul “accountable” for his failure in the Bihar assembly elections and “disastrous vote chori campaign.””The INC [Insecure Nehru Congress] has called for its first CWC [Congress Whitewash Committee] meeting after the party was routed and rejected by the people in the Bihar Elections,” BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan said.”Will the CWC dare to pin the onus and responsibility on Rahul Gandhi for Congress’s dismal Bihar drubbing and his disastrous vote chori campaign or will it as usual conveniently cover-up and whitewash Rahul Gandhi’s colossal failures?” he added.
