Chinese national sent back to Delhi from Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A Chinese national who was under the scanner for visiting Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh without permission was sent back to New Delhi, police sources said Wednesday evening.The 29-year-old had been under questioning by police and intelligence agencies since Sunday at Humhama police post in central Kashmir’s Budgam district for allegedly violating visa norms. His phone, seized for examination, was returned on Wednesday.The Chinese national arrived in New Delhi on Nov 19 on a tourist visa that permitted travel only to select Buddhist religious destinations, including Varanasi, Agra, Sarnath and Gaya. He flew to Leh on Nov 20, but did not register at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office counter at the airport. He told investigators that he had travelled to Ladakh and the Zanskar region as a tourist.He left Ladakh on Nov 29 and reached Kashmir on Dec 1, staying at a Budgam homestay. Though questioned during the daytime, he was allowed to return to the homestay in the evenings. He had also visited several areas in Srinagar.
