BHUBANESWAR: Central Bureau Of Investigation Friday arrested Biranchi Kumar Nayak (43), the alleged key middleman in the Odisha sub-inspector recruitment scam. This is the first arrest in the case.Nayak, a resident of Kalarahanga area near Patia in Bhubaneswar, allegedly approached several candidates and promised them questions for the Combined Police Service Examination 2024 in exchange for money. The recruitment drive, which sought to fill 933 positions — including 609 police SIs, 253 armed SIs, 47 fire station officers, and 24 assistant jailers — was abruptly cancelled on Sept 30, just days before the exams were scheduled on Oct 5 and 6.“Nayak took some aspirants to Digha and Sunderban in West Bengal in March this year. He colluded with several other middlemen to entice candidates,” a CBI source said. Nayak’s alleged involvement came to light during the interrogation of Biswa Ranjan Behera, Lokanath Sahoo, Fafim Ahammad Khan and Biswaranjan Harichandan, who were taken on a three-day remand by CBI on Nov 26.
