As many as 91,623 number of waqf properties are pending at various stages of uploading
NEW DELHI: Minority affairs minister Kiren Rijiju informed Parliament on Wednesday that the data as on July 17 shows of the over 7.99 lakh waqf properties that have been been initiated for uploading on the UMEED Central Portal–2025 since it was launched in June last year, around 6.17 lakh waqf properties have been validated and approved and 91,253 properties (11.4% out of 7.99 lakh) have been rejected during verification. As many as 91,623 number of waqf properties are pending at various stages of uploading. The minister shared this data in Lok Sabha in response to a question asked by MP Sajda Ahmed who sought to know from the minister whether the registration of Waqf properties on the UMEED portal has been completed across the country and details related to the status of properties approved and rejected. In his reply the minister shared that as per the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 also known as the UMEED Act, every waqf registered that existed prior to the commencement of the Act, was expected to file the details of the waqf and the property dedicated to the waqf on the portal and database, within a period of six months, with a provision for further extension of up to six months by the Waqf Tribunal on sufficient cause being shown by the mutawalli. “The UMEED Central Portal-2025 is a statutory portal developed in accordance with Section 3(ka) the UMEED Act, 1995, for uploading and managing the entire lifecycle of waqf properties including registration, verification, survey by the Collector, mutation, annual account audit etc. As the statutory remedy available under the Act, further extensions were granted to the State/UT Waqf Boards by the concerned Waqf tribunals/courts after expiry of initial six months,” the minister stated. He added that accordingly the ministry has facilitated by reopening the UMEED Central Portal-2025 for those State/UT Waqf Boards who have been granted further extension by the Waqf tribunals or Courts for the purpose of uploading details of existing waqf and properties dedicated to waqf.
