After quarrel over rash riding, bikers return with friends, kill 2

CHENNAI: Two men were killed and another was critically injured in an attack outside a hotel in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur Friday night following a road-rage incident. Police have arrested four suspects, including office-bearers of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam and Bahujan Samaj Party.Parthiban, 32, a bank clerk in Sevvapet, and Sugumar, 31, a private loan collection agent, died, while Kesavamoorthy, 23, who was with them, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Tiruvallur Govt General Hospital, police said.The men, residents of Ondikuppam in Tiruvallur, were returning from a Pongal trip to Kona Falls in Andhra Pradesh. At 7 pm, while they were standing near a bakery, two men on motorcycles, Jyotish, 34, and Vinothkumar, 36, allegedly rode past at high speed in a rash manner. When the men questioned them, a heated argument broke out.Later, Jyotish and Vinothkumar gathered their associates, including Neelakandan, 30, a BSP functionary, and Jawahar, 23, a TVK office-bearer. Allegedly under the influence of drugs, the group went in search of Parthiban and his friends.At 10 pm, when they found the men stepping out of the hotel, they surrounded them, pelted stones, and attacked them with sharp weapons. Parthiban collapsed on the spot and died. Sugumar and Kesavamoorthy were rushed to Tiruvallur govt General Hospital. Sugumar, who suffered severe injuries, died following a cardiac arrest. Kesavamoorthy remains in critical condition.Police registered cases for murder and attempted murder and later nabbed four suspects, identified as Neelakandan, Jyotish, Vinothkumar, and Jawahar.Neelakandan fractured his right leg and Jawahar fractured his right hand while trying to escape, police said. After treatment, they were produced before a magistrate on Saturday and remanded in judicial custody.SP Vivekananda Shukla said police have arrested all the accused and confirmed that no other persons were involved in the violence.
