Guwahati mourned the loss of music icon Zubeen Garg at Sarusajai Stadium, where his dogs poignantly paid their respects. A fresh autopsy, overseen by AIIMS Guwahati, was ordered following public demand. The funeral procession to Kamarkuchi will include a 21-gun salute by Assam Police. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will represent PM Modi.

Guwahati witnessed an emotional scene on Monday as fans gathered at Sarusajai Stadium to pay their final respects to Assam’s music legend, Zubeen Garg. Amid the crowd of mourners, four silent companions stood out—his beloved dogs.

Dogs carried into stadium by family and friends

Carried into the stadium by Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima, and close family friends, each of his dogs seemed to pay their final respects. Overwhelmed with grief, the crowd fell silent as the pets gazed at the late musician lying in the coffin.

Preparations underway for funeral

While emotions ran high inside the stadium, preparations were also underway for the funeral today, September 23.

Fresh autopsy ordered

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that a fresh autopsy would be conducted at 7 AM at Guwahati Medical College, supervised by a team from AIIMS Guwahati.He said the decision was made in response to public sentiment and to ensure transparency in the investigation into the singer’s sudden death in Singapore on September 19.

Funeral procession and cremation plans

After the autopsy, Zubeen Garg’s body will be brought back to the stadium by 9 AM for the funeral procession. His final journey will continue to the cremation site at Kamarkuchi, with Assam Police personnel carrying the coffin from the national highway and giving a 21-gun salute. Priests will then perform the last rites before his cremation.Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will attend the funeral as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s representative. To ensure a smooth procession, the Assam government has temporarily shut down the highway up to Jorabat for several hours and declared Monday and Tuesday as dry days.
