Zoya calls robbery at her production office an ‘internal job’

Zoya Akhtar calls robbery at her production office an ‘internal job’ after 66 hard disks go missing: ‘Sad what people do for money’

Zoya Akhtar has spoken out about the alleged hard disk theft at Tiger Baby Films, the banner she co-founded with filmmaker Reema Kagti. The case, involving the reported disappearance of 66 hard disks containing crucial production material, has triggered concern in the entertainment industry. In an interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Zoya confirmed that a robbery had taken place at her office and said the matter is currently being investigated by the police.“Yes there has been a robbery in my office, hard disks have been stolen. We filed a complaint and police has made some arrests as well. It’s an internal job, it’s sad to what extent people go to make money,” she said. However, the filmmaker clarified that the company had secured backups of the missing content.“Luckily we have backup files of everything,” she added.

FIR registered, two accused arrested

According to reports, the complaint was filed by Mehjabeen Mushtaq Shaikh, executive assistant and HR administrator at Tiger Baby Digital LLP.Following the complaint, Bandra Police registered an FIR against Mohammad Shahid Azim Khan and Ritesh Suresh Shah. The accused were later arrested and remanded to police custody till May 29.The alleged theft reportedly came to light on May 21 after employees were unable to locate several hard disks required for ongoing projects. An internal check allegedly uncovered damaged storage boxes and multiple empty hard disk cases inside the office.

Missing drives allegedly contained unreleased content

Reports suggest the company’s inventory included 119 hard disks, of which 66 were allegedly found missing. The stolen drives reportedly stored sensitive production data, with capacities ranging from 16TB to 72TB.Investigators suspect the missing material may include raw footage, edited scenes, post-production files, archival backups, ad campaign content and unreleased material connected to films and OTT projects. Some reports further claim that the data may have included content linked to projects such as Made in Heaven and Ghost Stories. Police officials reportedly stated that one of the accused confessed to stealing several hard disks over the past few months and allegedly selling them in the grey market. Authorities are now probing whether any data from the drives was duplicated, leaked or circulated online before they went missing.
