Veteran actress Zeenat Aman has once again defended her support for live-in relationships, maintaining that couples should live together before making a lifelong commitment through marriage. Although her views have drawn criticism from some of her contemporaries, including Mumtaz and Saira Banu, the actress says she continues to stand firmly by her belief. In a recent conversation with Shubra Aiyappa, Zeenat explained why she believes live-in relationships are more relevant than ever in today’s world.

‘You need to ensure compatibility’

Sharing her perspective, Zeenat said, “In today’s day and age—and even in the past—nothing lasts forever. You need to ensure compatibility before making a legal commitment. This is my view. You need to know whether you’re compatible mentally and emotionally.”She went on to explain that compatibility extends beyond romance and includes important aspects of building a life together.”If you’re planning to have children, how will you raise them? What are your views on finances? If there is no compatibility, what’s the point? Wouldn’t you rather have five joyous years instead of fifteen miserable ones? That’s what I believe,” she added.

‘The honeymoon phase doesn’t last forever’

The actress also spoke about the realities of long-term relationships, saying that many people mistakenly believe romance alone can sustain a marriage.”People think romance is going to last forever. Nothing lasts forever. Relationships are always a work in progress. There has to be give and take, adjustment and compromise if things are to work. Relationships evolve. If you think the honeymoon phase is going to last forever, it doesn’t,” she said.

Zeenat has shared the same advice with her sons

Zeenat Aman has previously revealed that she gives the same advice to her sons, encouraging them to live with their partners before deciding to get married. She has often said that her views have been shaped by her own personal experiences. The actress was briefly married to Sanjay Khan, a relationship that ended amid allegations of physical abuse following an infamous hotel-room incident in which she sustained a serious eye injury. She later married actor Mazhar Khan, but that marriage also faced several challenges. Over the years, Zeenat has spoken candidly about alleged infidelity during her pregnancy and the eventual breakdown of their relationship.
