Zarine Khan, mother of Sussanne Khan and Zayed Khan, passes away at 81

The Bollywood fraternity is mourning the loss of a revered figure, Zarine Khan (Zarin Katrak), wife of veteran actor Sanjay Khan and mother of actor Zayed Khan, designer Sussanne Khan and Farah Khan Ali. Zarine Khan passed away peacefully today, surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old.

The Bollywood fraternity is mourning the loss of a revered figure, Zarine Khan (Zarin Katrak), wife of veteran actor Sanjay Khan and mother of actor Zayed Khan, designer Sussanne Khan and Farah Khan Ali. Zarine Khan passed away peacefully today, surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old. The matriarch was a well-known personality in Mumbai’s social circuit and a pillar of the Khan family, often seen at family events supporting her children and husband.

Zarin Katrak married Sanjay Khan in 1966. She is survived by her four children: Zayed Khan, Sussanne Khan, Farah Khan Ali, and Simone Arora. Her influence extended through her famous in-laws, including her nephews Fardeen Khan and Hrithik Roshan (Sussanne’s ex-husband).Notably, Zarine Khan had essayed the role of Dev Anand’s secretary, Jenny Farnandes in ‘Tere Ghar Ke Saamne’ (1963).

Beyond her socialite status as a star wife, Zarine Khan was a talented author as well. She has penned the book ‘Family Secrets: The Khan Family Cookbook’ which delved into the culinary traditions and personal recipes of one of the Khan family.While her daughter Sussanne Khan is a recognized interior designer, Zarine herself was deeply involved in design and architecture. She has significantly contributed to the aesthetic of their grand home, as seen in Farah Khan’s recent Vlog.Zarine Khan’s profound strength was revealed during the devastating fire accident on the set of the television series ‘The Sword of Tipu Sultan’ in 1990. Sanjay Khan suffered severe burns and Zarine reportedly provided unwavering support, tending to him through his long and difficult recovery.Both her daughters, Sussanne Khan and Farah Khan Ali, have repeatedly credited their mother’s independence, strong moral values, and sense of style as major influences on their own successful careers in design and jewelry.
