‘Yellowstone’ spinoff ‘Marshals’ kills Monica Dutton

As reported by Page Six, ‘Marshals’ wastes no time. Kayce wakes from a nightmare about getting a frantic call from Monica while he is on a military operation. He wakes up alone. Later, he stands at her grave and says, “the best part of me died with you.” The show does not spell out how she died. Kayce makes vague references to “vengeance,” but offers no details. The new series follows Kayce after the events of ‘Yellowstone,’ which aired on Paramount from 2018 to 2024. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the original drama centered on the powerful Dutton ranching family in Montana. The cast included Kevin Costner as John Dutton, along with Kelly Reilly and Wes Bentley as Kayce’s siblings. In ‘Marshals,’ Kayce reconnects with his military past. He joins an elite team of U.S. Marshals led by his old friend Pete Calvin, played by Logan Marshall-Green. Monica’s absence looms over his new mission.

‘Yellowstone’ fans react to Monica’s death

For years, some ‘Yellowstone’ viewers voiced strong dislike for Monica. In 2022, Kevin Costner asked fans on Instagram what they wanted from the final season. One replied, “Monica dies! I’ve had enough of her now.”A 2022 essay on Pajiba argued that Monica was “not a character so much as she is an obstacle for her husband to navigate.”On Reddit, one critic wrote, “I just can’t seem to like or even respect Monica,” adding that her behavior felt “inconsistent.” The fan said, “She’s made her bed over and over again and refuses to lie in it … At some point you’ve got to come to terms with what you’ve chosen for your life.”Others were blunt. One viewer called her “mopey” and said she played the “victim a lot.” Another wrote, “She’s such a nag, I feel bad saying that as a woman but half of the reason Kayce had no peace was because of her complaining.” Even defenders sounded unsure. “I don’t think she’s bad. She just seems like a half baked character,” one said. Another declared, “I cannot STAND HER.”By removing Monica, ‘Marshals’ clears the path for Kayce’s next chapter and gives fans exactly what many had asked for. Go to Source
