Women’s World Cup: Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli, Priyanka Chopra, Mammootty and other celebrities celebrate Team India's historic win

The Indian Womens cricket team has created history!The girls in blue lifted their first-ever Women’s World Cup trophy on Sunday, after defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. As the nation erupted in cheer and celebration over the historic win, and Bollywood wasn’t far behind in joining in the chorus and expressing their pride and joy over the big victory. From Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli to Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, Mammooty and many others, flooded social media with congratulatory posts, applauding the team’s historic win.Anushka took to her Instagram stoires to write, “You Champions!! SUCH A momentous achievement.”

Anushka’s cricketer husband, Virat Kohli shared his pride in a note that read, “The girls have created history and I couldn’t be more proud as an Indian to see the hard work of so many years come to life finally. They deserve all the applause and a big congratulations to Harman and the whole team for achieving this historic feat. Also congratulations to the whole squad and the management for the work behind the scenes. Well done india. Enjoy the moment to the fullest. This will inspire generations of girls to take up the sport in our country. Jai hind.” Mammootty wrote in a tweet, “Congratulations to our incredible Women’s #TeamIndia ! You’ve made history and filled an entire nation with pride. This triumph is more than a win, it’s a story of spirit, resilience, and belief. Proud of you, Champions.” Priyanka Chopra took to her handle to write, “Congratulations to our champions.”

Randeep Hooda wrote, “HISTORY MADE! TEAM INDIA ARE THE ICC WOMEN’S WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! FROM HEARTBREAKS TO HEROICS, THIS GOLDEN GENERATION HAS DONE IT! EVERY INDIAN IS PROUD TODAY.” Actress Kiara Advani aslo celebrated the victory saying, “Our Champions!!!! You did it! What an incredible moment, You have created history!!! Congratulations to our Women in Blue.”

Opener Shafali Verma emerged as the star of the match, smashing a career-best 87 off 78 balls, helping India post an imposing 298-7 after electing to bat first. Deepti Sharma’s stunning spell of 5 for 39 sealed the victory, dismissing South Africa for 246 in 45.3 overs, despite a valiant century from Laura Wolvaardt (101 off 98 balls).This win marks a historic milestone — India’s first Women’s World Cup title, after finishing runners-up in 2005 and 2017.
