Williams and Arnaud condemn hate in ‘Heated Rivalry’ fandom

'Heated Rivalry' stars Hudson Williams and François Arnaud slam ‘bigoted’ fans: ‘None of us need your hateful love’

‘Heated Rivalry’ stars Hudson Williams and François Arnaud aren’t staying quiet about the ugly side of fame. The queer hockey drama has exploded in popularity, turning its leads into overnight sensations with a huge online following. However, the stars of the show, Williams and Arnaud, have decided it’s time to call out the worst parts of that attention. Both actors went public on social media, slamming the ‘bigoted’, hateful, and abusive behavior they’ve seen from some so-called fans. Their message was clear: stop using our show as an excuse to spread hate.

What happened?

When Hudson Williams and François Arnaud wanted to spread a message for not tolerating questionable behavior from certain fans, who were doing nothing but spreading hatred and bigotry, it didn’t take long for their words to go viral.Williams and Arnaud posted the same statement on their Instagram Stories, tackling the flood of offensive comments popping up in online fan spaces. They didn’t mince words. Calling out fans who hide behind “support” while spreading hate, they wrote:”Don’t call yourself a fan if you share racist/ homophobic/biphobic/misogynistic/ageist/ ableist/parasocial/bigoted comments of any kind. None of us need your hateful ‘love.'” They made it clear in their tone: the cast stands together and has each other’s backs. And if people can’t respect that, they should just move on. Other cast members quickly shared the post, doubling down on the call for respect in the show’s growing online community.

How it all started

Although the actors didn’t name a single event, per Entertainment Weekly, the tension has been pretty evident in ‘Heated Rivalry’s fandom spaces. The show’s wild popularity brought a wave of excitement and plenty of speculation about the actors’ private lives. Some fans crossed the line, obsessing over who’s dating whom, picking apart sexualities, and even making up rumors about secret romances between cast members. And it didn’t take long to get ugly.Per E! News, Arnaud, the only openly queer lead, took the brunt of it: ageist, homophobic comments and more. Earlier this year, he even unfollowed his co-stars and the show’s creator for a while, just to get some distance from the drama, before reconnecting later.

The aftermath

After the statement from the stars went up online, a fan on Threads wanted to know why they posted it now. Per The Wrap, Williams answered. Turns out, Arnaud suggested the idea; “It was Francois’ idea, and I helped write it! I don’t scroll comments, so I did not see the hate. I was vibing watching figure skating highlights,” Williams explained.

‘Heated Rivalry’: What is it about

All of this is happening as ‘Heated Rivalry’ keeps picking up steam. For the unversed, Jacob Tierney created the show, which is based on Rachel Reid’s ‘Game Changers’ novels. It dropped in late 2025 and quickly became one of the hottest new series on streaming, blending all the high-stakes energy of pro hockey with a love story that’s both tender and complicated. The plot follows two rival hockey players whose fierce competition turns into a secret romance, digging into questions of identity, masculinity, and what it really costs to come out in the sports world Go to Source
