When Sara Arjun broke her silence on the 20-year age gap with Ranveer Singh in ‘Dhurandhar’

When the makers of ‘Dhurandhar’ unveiled Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun as the film’s lead pair, the announcement quickly became a topic of discussion online. Much of the conversation revolved around the age difference between the actors, with social media users expressing mixed reactions. Amid the chatter, Sara chose to address the controversy and offered her perspective on the casting choice. The actor made it clear that while she was aware of the ongoing debate, she never felt the need to justify her presence in the film because she understood the narrative and the requirements of her role.

Why the criticism didn’t bother Sara Arjun

Speaking to NDTV about the reactions at the time, Sara revealed that she largely stayed away from social media discussions. Instead of focusing on public opinions, she preferred to trust the filmmakers’ vision and her understanding of the story.”All the noise is on social media, right? And I’m not very active. I didn’t engage with it much… I also believe everyone has their own opinion. And, I truly believe in ‘live and let live’… It’s their opinion. It doesn’t influence how I think… I knew the story, and I knew it was justified, and that’s all.” Sara’s comments suggested that her faith in the screenplay played a major role in how she handled the controversy. Since she was familiar with the context in which the characters existed, she never questioned whether the casting decision made sense. Rather than entering into a public debate, the actor chose to let the work speak for itself, maintaining that the story adequately explained the pairing.

Ranveer Singh left a lasting impression

Apart from addressing the controversy, Sara also took the opportunity to speak about her experience of sharing screen space with Ranveer Singh. She described the actor as someone whose dedication extended far beyond his own scenes. Reflecting on their collaboration, Sara said, “No matter who I work with in the future, I don’t think anyone can top Ranveer. He’s set the bar so high. As an actor, he’s deeply involved in his craft, but he also cares for the entire set.”

Do you believe actors should engage with social media discussions about their roles?

Sara Arjun’s gratitude for Ranveer Singh

What impressed Sara the most was Ranveer’s approach towards filmmaking as a collective effort. According to her, he actively supported not only his fellow actors but also the wider team working behind the scenes. “He sees filmmaking as teamwork. He’s equally invested in what I do and in what the set and others are contributing. That’s really important. He brings everyone together.”Years later, Sara’s comments continue to be revisited whenever conversations around ‘Dhurandhar’ resurface, serving as a reminder of how she navigated one of the film’s most discussed controversies while also expressing admiration for her co-star.
