When Hema Malini called Aishwarya her ‘Dream Girl’: Here’s why

Hema Malini once called Aishwarya Rai her ‘Dream Girl’, recalled how 'Guru' actress protected her from being pushed by fans: 'I was so touched by that'

Hema Malini is called Bollywood’s ‘Dream Girl’, she has charmed audiences for decades with iconic films like ‘Sholay’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, ‘Baghban’, ‘Satte Pe Satta’ and many more. Her grace, beauty and unforgettable screen presence made her one of Indian cinema’s most loved stars. But have you ever wondered which actress she herself would call her very own ‘Dream Girl’?

Hema Malini called Aishwarya Rai a modern dream girl

In a past chat with PTI, the ‘Andaz’ actress said she would pass her famous title to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She praised today’s actresses but said the ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ actress stands out in many ways.”All actress are more than a dream girl today…they are very high and way above it. Each and every girl is very beautiful. They all have made a name for themselves specially Aishwarya. I will give the title to her,” Hema said.

Hema Malini recalled sweet moment with Aishwarya Rai

In another interview, Hema Malini remembered a touching incident involving the ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ actress at the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards in Mumbai in 2017. After the ceremony, Hema was waiting for her car when she noticed Aishwarya standing beside her.Hema told Hindustan Times, “After the ceremony was over, I was waiting for a while for my car to come. I guess the driver had parked it some distance away, and it took him some time [to reach me]. I realised that Aishwarya was just standing there with me, refusing to leave. When I asked her, ‘Why are you still here?’ she replied, ‘Aapki gaadi aane do (Let your car come). I will leave after that.’”

Aishwarya Rai helped Hema Malini manage fans

The ‘Guru’ actress even stepped into a protective role as the crowd grew around them. Fans were trying to click photos and take selfies, and ‘Johnny Mera Naam’ actress recalled how Aishwarya made sure she did not get pushed or nudged.“There were so many people who were trying to click photos and were trying to take selfies. [Aishwarya] was making sure that I don’t get pushed or nudged by them. Then, after [my] car came, she opened the door, made sure I sat inside the car, and only then did she move to her car, which had been waiting for a while,” she said.

Hema Malini was touched by Aishwarya’s gesture

Looking back, Hema Malini said she was moved by Aishwarya’s kindness and respect. “I was so touched by that,” she said. Hema added, “Now who’d do such a thing? It shows that there’s a lot of respect and regard for me.”For Hema Malini, the ‘Dream Girl’ title stands for elegance and dignity. And in her eyes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan carries these qualities with ease. From her behaviour at the awards ceremony to the respect she shows her seniors, Aishwarya left a lasting mark on Hema.
