What to catch in theatres this week

Upcoming theatrical releases this week: 'Border 2,' 'Mercy' and more

What’s hitting theaters this week? For starters, it’s a wild mix — big-budget sequels, weird comedies, intense dramas, and a dose of local flavor from all corners of Indian cinema. If you’ve been waiting for something to yank you out of the post-holiday slump, this is it. Here’s what’s new and up for the big screen, who’s in it, and why you might actually want to leave the house for a movie night — on your own or with your folks.

‘Border 2’ (January 23, 2026)

Bollywood’s going big this week, too. ‘Border 2’ (out January 23) brings back the spirit of the 1997 classic, with Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and more. Expect massive battle scenes, plenty of patriotic emotion, and stories about soldiers that hit home. If you love war dramas, this is the one you’ll hear everyone talking about.

‘Mercy’ (January 23, 2026)

Theatres (2)

Switching gears — and genres — ‘Mercy’ lands January 23. Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson star in this slick, futuristic crime thriller set in a neon-lit Los Angeles. Pratt plays a detective on trial for his wife’s murder, and the movie mashes up noir vibes with sci-fi spectacle. Timur Bekmambetov directs. It’s action, mystery, and a little bit of dystopia, all rolled up in one.

‘Marty Supreme’ (January 23, 2026)

Theatres (3)

Are sports dramas more your thing? The much-talked-about movie, ‘Marty Supreme’, finally gets a wide release on January 23 after teasing crowds over the holidays. Here, Timothée Chalamet stars as Marty Mauser, a table-tennis whiz fighting to make a name for himself, with Gwyneth Paltrow along for the ride. People are loving the mix of heart, humor, and underdog grit.

‘Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies’ (January 22, 2026)

Theatres (4)

Then comes the South Indian scene: ‘Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies’, a Malayalam action-comedy about wrestling in Fort Kochi, is coming out as well. Arjun Ashokan, Roshan Mathew, Vishakh Nair, and Ishan Shaukkath play a ragtag crew hoping to make it big in the ring. It’s got brawls, heart, and plenty of laughs — and you’ll find it in theaters all across India. Go to Source
