Vishal Jethwa on Homebound: “After 3-4 audition rounds, I was found perfect as Chandan

Actor Vishal Jethwa known for his performance in films like Mardaani 2 and Tiger 3 has steadily carved a niche for himself with powerful performances, recently opened up about how he landed his role in Homebound -India’s official entry to the Oscars this year. The film, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Karan Johar is being hailed as one of the most significant projects of Vishal’s career.

Recalling his journey during his conversation with ETimes, Vishal shared,“I had to audition for the movie, the auditions were going on and after three-four rounds I cracked it. It was then . I cracked it, and after three-four rounds of auditions, I met Neeraj sir and Ishan Khatter , and our chemistry was checked. Then they decided that Vishal is the perfect fit for Chandan. After that, I got the story, but then I had already said yes for the film.”

Vishal confessed that he was eager to be a part of the film even before reading the script.“I desperately wanted to do this movie because it is a very important movie of my career. And if Dharma is producing it, then who will say no — that goes without saying,” he smiled.

Once he read the script, the weight of the story truly sank in.“After cracking the audition, after reading the script, I got to know how important this movie is, and then I understood the importance of this move,” he said.

The actor also revealed that the team refrained from meeting the families of the people whose lives may have inspired the story.“Actually, we didn’t meet anyone’s family, and this process wasn’t there. I think maybe Neeraj sir was of the opinion that they wouldn’t open up about their past , so we didn’t even touch that,” Vishal explained.
