Veteran actress Jyoti Chandekar, remembered for her warmth and powerful screen presence, passed away on August 16 in Pune at the age of 69. The actress had been undergoing treatment in the city before she breathed her last. Her daughter, actress Tejaswini Pandit, confirmed the heartbreaking news and shared details about the funeral, which will take place on August 17 at Navi Peth Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune.

Tejaswini Pandit’s heartfelt statement – With heavy hearts

Tejaswini, mourning the loss of her mother, issued an emotional statement on social media. “It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our beloved mother and everyone’s cherished senior actress, Mrs. Jyoti Chandekar Pandit, who lived life on her own terms and always greeted the world with a warm smile,” the note read. She further stated, “Her funeral will be held tomorrow, August 17th, at 11 a.m. With heavy hearts, Tejaswini Pandit, Pornima Pandit, and the entire Chandekar-Pandit family.” The message reflected not only the grief of a daughter but also the respect Jyoti Chandekar commanded in the industry and beyond.

A career spanning five decades

Jyoti Chandekar’s career began at the young age of 12, and over the next five decades, she became a familiar and cherished face in Marathi households. She was best known for her role as Purna Aji in Tharal Tar Mag, a performance that left a lasting impression on audiences. Her filmography includes memorable works such as Dharmakanya, Dholki, Paoolwaat, Guru, and Sojourner. Her performances were marked by an authenticity that made her characters relatable and endearing.With her passing, Marathi cinema bids farewell to a true veteran, but her work and her legacy will continue to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike.
