Twinkle: ‘People thought I was RK’s illegitimate daughter’

Twinkle Khanna recalls Rishi Kapoor's witty tweet about serenading Dimple Kapadia in Bobby: ‘Everybody thought I was his illegitimate daughter’

Twinkle Khanna recently shared a hilarious memory on Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, recalling a moment when Rishi Kapoor jokingly made her his “illegitimate daughter.” The story goes back to one of Twinkle’s birthdays, when Rishi tweeted that she was in her mom’s tummy when he was serenading Dimple Kapadia in Bobby. Fans quickly misunderstood, thinking Twinkle was born out of wedlock.

Twinkle clears the confusion

Laughing about the incident, Twinkle said, “I almost became a Kapoor because of Alia’s father-in-law. On my birthday, he tweeted very generously, ‘Oh you know… when you were in your mother’s stomach, I serenaded her.’ So everybody thought that I was his illegitimate daughter. Then he got trolled and had to clarify, saying, ‘No, I am so sorry.’” Kajol, amused, pointed out Alia Bhatt’s awkward expressions, to which Twinkle added, “I am not your sister-in-law, it was a mistake.” Varun chimed in, “She doesn’t know how to react.”

The timeline explained

For context, Rishi Kapoor and Twinkle’s mother, Dimple Kapadia, had made their acting debut together in Raj Kapoor’s 1973 classic Bobby. Rishi had sent Twinkle a quirky birthday wish referencing the iconic song “Aksar koi ladka”: “Happy Happy Birthday dear one! You were in your mum’s tummy when I was serenading her in Bobby in 1973 lol.”The tweet caused confusion online about Twinkle’s birth. Rishi Kapoor quickly set the record straight: “Kuch logon ko problem kya hai? Kakaji and Dimple were married, Bobby was still incomplete, we shot that song when Dimple was 3 months pregnant. Kakaji-Dimple married in March ’73. Bobby released Sept 28th ’73. Twinkle born 29th Dec ’73.”It’s a reminder of Rishi Kapoor’s playful nature and the lighthearted moments that fans still cherish today.
