'The Bengal Files' OTT release: When and where to watch Vivek Agnihotri's film online

Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Bengal Files’, a film exploring the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings and its impact on India’s partition, is set for its digital premiere on Zee5 from November 21, 2025. Despite a reported Rs 35 crore budget, the movie garnered approximately Rs 16.79 crore at the box office. This release marks the latest installment in Agnihotri’s ‘Files’ trilogy.

Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Bengal Files’, which was one of the controversial releases of this year, is now gearing up for its digital debut. The film that featured Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Simrat Kaur, and Saswata Chatterjee, is all set for its digital debut and the makers have officially announced the release details.

‘The Bengal Files’, about the events surrounding the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings (Direct Action Day) and its impact on the country’s partition and independence, film will be available to watch on the Zee5 platform from November 21, 2025. According to the reports, Agnihotri released a statement that read, “The Bengal Files is not just a film; it’s a reminder. It’s about the forgotten chapters of our collective conscience and the price of silence. Through this story, we wanted to bring Bengal’s pain, courage, and truth to the forefront.”

He added, “I’m glad that this story will now reach every home—every viewer who wants to know what really happened.”

According to the Sacnilk report, the film, reportedly made on a budget of Rs 35 crore, earned just around Rs 16.79 crore at the box office.

The movie is a part of Agnihotri’s ‘Files’ trilogy that included ‘The Tashkent Files’, ‘The Kashmi Files’, and ‘The Bengal Files’, failed to bring the audience to the theatres unlike the other films. It also featured Eklavya Sood, Namashi Chakraborty, Rajesh Khera, Puneet Issar, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sourav Das, Mohan Kapur, Anubha Arora, and Madalsa Sharma.Initially titled ‘The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter’, the makers later changed the title, which went in accordance with the story.It was released in theatres on September 5, 2025, where it clashed with the Tiger Shroff-starrer ‘Baaghi 4’ and Hollywood horror flick ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ at the box office.
