Veteran Tamil filmmaker Thakkali Srinivasan passes away at 72 in Bengaluru after prolonged illness

Veteran Tamil filmmaker Thakkali Srinivasan has passed away in Bengaluru at 72 after a prolonged illness. Known for his work as a producer, director, composer, and actor, Srinivasan was celebrated for landmark films like ‘Ivargal Varungala Thoongal’ and ‘Jenma Natchathiram’. In his later years, he dedicated himself to philanthropy, running an ashram and living with his adopted children.

Veteran Tamil filmmaker and composer Thakkali Srinivasan passed away in Bengaluru after battling a prolonged illness. The respected Kollywood personality breathed his last on Tuesday, March 10.Over the years, Srinivasan earned recognition for his work as a producer, director, composer, and actor. Reports suggest that the filmmaker had been facing health complications for some time.

PRO Nikil Murukan confirms the news

Industry publicist Nikil Murukan shared the news of Thakkali Srinivasan’s demise. His note read, “Deeply regret to inform that Producer/Director/Composer Thakkali Srinivasan passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru. His last rites will be performed in Bengaluru tomorrow.” His note read, “A successful producer who produced some landmark films like Ivargal Varungala Thoongal Manasukul Mathappu Nalaya Manithan Jenma Natchathiram Athisiya Manithan, Witness, and many more films. He also played the antagonist in the Kamal Hassan starrer ‘Soora Samharam’. He was a philanthropist who ran an ashram in the later years of his life and was living with his adopted children.”

A career spanning multiple roles in cinema

Thakkali Srinivasan built a diverse career that extended beyond a single role in filmmaking. He began his journey in cinema as a producer with the film Ivargal Varungala Thoongal. Over time he went on to produce several well-known films in Tamil cinema such as ‘Manasukul Mathappu’ and ‘Nalaya Manithan’, and more.Apart from producing films, he also ventured into acting as he played the antagonist in the Kamal Haasan starrer ‘Soora Samharam’.

Notable directorial projects

As a director, Thakkali Srinivasan worked on several interesting projects that explored thriller and horror themes and one of his well-known films was ‘Jenma Natchathiram’, for which he also composed the music. The film was a remake of the iconic Hollywood horror film ‘The Omen’.He later directed the thriller ‘Aduthathu’ which marked his last release as a director on the big screen. The film featured actors such as Nassar, Sriman, Vaiyapuri, Ilavarasu, Aarthi and Meenal in pivotal roles.’Aduthathu’ was inspired by the famous mystery novel ‘And Then There Were None’ by Agatha Christie.Srinivasan also directed the murder mystery ‘Asokavanam’ which featured Livingston, Sriman and Riyaz Khan.

Known for philanthropy in later years

In the later years of his life, Thakkali Srinivasan gradually stepped away from the film industry and devoted much of his time to humanitarian work.Reports from Cinema Express state that he ran an ashram and focused on social service activities. According to reports, the filmmaker was living with his adopted children during this phase of his life while continuing his charitable work.
