Tannishtha Chatterjee on battling Stage 4 oligo-metastatic cancer: 'I’m still undergoing treatment and the future is uncertain'

Acclaimed actress Tannishtha Chatterjee has opened up about her ongoing battle with cancer. In a recent interview she revealed how the experience has transformed her perspective on life and creativity. Speaking to The Indian Express, the Parched and Angry Indian Goddesses star shared that she is still undergoing treatment and that her future remains uncertain.”I’m still undergoing treatment, and the future is uncertain, even my doctors can’t say,” she said candidly. “I’m taking each day as it comes, focusing on living fully and doing what I love.”The actress said that the diagnosis has taught her to live in the present moment . It also helped her to channel her emotions into art.

Art as healing and expression

For Tannishtha, creativity is the greatest source of her strength. She revealed that she is currently working on a new performance piece set to be presented early next year. “As an artist, expression is vital,” she said. “I’m working on a performance piece that I’ll present at the end of January next year.”Despite her ongoing treatment, the actress continues to stay active professionally, promoting her recent film Full Plate at various international festivals. She emphasized how cancer can affect anyone, regardless of lifestyle or choices. “Even with a healthy lifestyle — I don’t smoke or drink — things happen beyond our control. Sometimes it’s the environment, the air we breathe, the food we eat, or factors we can’t influence,” she noted. Her supernatural thriller Dahini: The Witch, directed by Rajesh Touchriver and co-starring JD Chakravarthy, is also travelling across global film circuits, earning appreciation for its bold themes and performances.

Cancer diagnosis

Chatterjee was diagnosed with Stage 4 oligo-metastatic cancer, which means the cancer has spread to a limited number of sites in her body, such as her spine, lungs, chest, bones, and lymphatic system. She shared the news eight months after her father’s death from the same illness and acknowledged the emotional and physical toll, especially as she is a single mother to a young daughter.
