Swara Bhasker recently sparked a new social media controversy when her comment about having a girl crush on Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav went viral. She has since clarified her statement and encouraged people to pay attention to more important matters.Views on bisexuality and admiration for Dimple YadavFor the unversed, in her previous interview with Screen, the actor shared her thoughts on bisexuality, expressing that she views heterosexuality as an ideology that has been imposed on people for a long time. When questioned about who she admires, she revealed that her crush is on Dimple Yadav.Clarifying remarks and highlighting important issuesIn a recent conversation with India Today, the actor addressed and clarified her previous remarks. She also emphasized that there are more significant issues, such as ‘vote chori,’ that deserve the public’s attention.Reaction to backlash and explanation of commentsResponding to the backlash over her viral remarks about Dimple Yadav and bisexuality, Swara called the situation “so stupid” and expressed confusion over why the clip gained so much attention. She explained, “If someone watches the clip, they will know what I was talking about. There was nothing wrong. It’s such a light-hearted banter kind of interview. I am basically talking about, that I am up for a bisexual thing.” Swara clarified that her comments were theoretical, saying, “I am thinking theoretically, not practically. I mean, I am married and I have a child, so I don’t understand what the confusion is.”Open admiration for Dimple YadavRegarding Dimple Yadav, she openly shared her admiration, stating, “And as far as Dimple-ji goes, I very openly admire her. She’s a very beautiful, gracious, lovely woman. And I think she is an inspiration for a lot of people. She is a politician’s wife, and she’s conducted herself with so much grace and dignity over the years. So there’s a lot for me to learn.” Swara also addressed her use of the term “girl crush advocate” on her X account, adding, “I put that (girl crush advocate) on my X account as I think women should admire each other, praise each other in public. I don’t understand why there’s anything wrong with that.”Comments on public outrage and trollsWhen questioned about whether the sensitivity of the topic has sparked greater outrage, she responded that Fahad often tells her that her self-depreciative comments, or “your remarks may end my career”, which she hopes is not true. She acknowledged that there is some rage bait, but honestly feels the real issue is that she lives her life as if the opinions of trolls don’t matter. She added that maybe she should start caring about them, but then life wouldn’t be fun.Call to focus on bigger issues like vote theftShe also mentioned that there are bigger issues that people should be focussing on. Swara further said that she thinks this is a bit of a deviation from a real issue. She highlighted that the Election Commission of India has been accused of vote chori, which she considers the greatest scandal in the country’s 78 years of modern history. She believes this is the main issue people should be talking about. Swara said she had written something and wanted to post an explainer about it but decided against it. She expressed that she really wanted to write that “your votes are getting manipulated, focus on that instead of me”.No discussion yet with Samajwadi party MPWhen asked if she had discussed the controversy with the Samajwadi Party MP, Swara responded that she had not spoken to them. She described the situation as “such a silly thing to even clarify” and expressed confidence that they are mature enough to understand.Latest workOn the work front, Swara was last seen in the film in the 2022 release ‘Jahaan Chaar Yaar’.
