A holiday or festive period is usually considered great for the release of two movies at the same time and if there’s positive word of mouth, despite the clash, both movies find an audience. One has seen that in the past in case of ‘Gadar 2’, ‘OMG 2’ and a long list of big movie clashes. On October 2 this year, when there was Gandhi Jayanti combined with Dussehra, Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ released along with Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’. While the latter got rave reviews and people found it entertaining, this did not reflect in the numbers the way it should have. The film had a decent opening but continued to see a drop in numbers as it’s now nearing the completion of its first week. On the other hand, ‘Kantara’ has remained steady and is now inching towards Rs 300 crore at the Indian box office. Of couse, the budget, scale of both these movies are different. So, one cannot even expect ‘SSKTK’ to bring in those huge numbers. As per Sacnilk, ‘SSKTK’ made Rs 9.25 crore on day 1. We just saw that in the era of action and larger-than-life movies working, a romantic film like ‘Saiyaara’ broke all records which has carved a path for romcoms in theatres again. For the longest time after Covid, one had begun to think that romcoms were now only meant for OTT and not for the big screen but ‘Saiyaara’ broke that. So, in terms of that, this is a decent opening, though, does not match up to the historic Rs 20 crore on day 1 which ‘Saiyaara’ had achieved. The film saw a drop on day 2 which is Friday and made only Rs 5.5 crore. But there was growth as compared to that over the weekend. It made Rs 7.5 crore respectively on Saturday and Sunday each. On day 6, which is Tuesday, the film has made Rs 2.96 crore which is a drop from the Monday numbers, which were Rs 3.25 crore The total collection of ‘Sunny Sanskari’ is now Rs 36.21 crore according to Sacnilk. Meanwhile, ‘Kantara’ made Rs 33.5 crore on day 6, which is Tuesday. The domestic collection now with all languages combined is now Rs 290.25 crore. There’s positive word of mouth for the film but at the same time, ‘Kantara’ has taken over the box office. It has got raved reviews and has lived up to the expectations of the earlier installment. ‘SSKTK’ has also got lesser number of screens, thus, the difference in the collections of the movies is further evident. ‘SSKTK’ is doing better in metros like Mumbai, Bengaluru, NCR, than the rest of the country, according to Box Office India. This was expected but for a film to really get in those big numbers, it has to reach the masses, single screens and even in two-tier, three-tier centres. Only such films do manage to get those huge numbers.’Day wise collection of ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’Day 1 [1st Thursday] ₹ 9.25 Cr -Day 2 [1st Friday] ₹ 5.5 CrDay 3 [1st Saturday] ₹ 7.5 CrDay 4 [1st Sunday] ₹ 7.75 Cr Day 5 [1st Monday] ₹ 3.25 Cr Day 6 [1st Tuesday] ₹ 2.96 Cr * rough data Total ₹ 36.21 Cr Go to Source
