Sunil Pal says he wasn’t mentally prepared for Samay’s roasting

Sunil Pal says he wasn’t mentally prepared for Samay Raina’s roasting on The Great Indian Kapil Show: ‘Stand-up ke liye bulaya tha’

Sunil Pal has opened up about his recent appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show, admitting that he was caught off guard by the way the episode unfolded. The World Laughter Day special episode featured Kapil Sharma alongside internet personalities Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. However, clips from the episode soon went viral online, with viewers debating the tone of the interactions between Samay and Sunil. While some social media users viewed the exchange as harmless banter, others felt that Sunil Pal was being publicly embarrassed during the segment. At the same time, a section of viewers also criticised Sunil’s jokes, calling them awkward and outdated.

‘I went there prepared for stand-up’

Speaking to Zee Switch, Sunil revealed that he had very little idea about how the segment would eventually play out and said he had prepared only for a stand-up performance.“Mujhe kaha gaya tha ki Samay Raina aur Ranveer Allahbadia voh show main honge aur aap bhi honge lekin aapko perform karna hai (I was told that Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia would be on the show and that I would be there too, but I had to perform),” he said. The comedian further explained that he was expecting a regular stand-up setup and not a roasting session.“Mujhe stand-up karne ke liye bulaya gaya tha toh main stand-up ki teyaari karke gaya tha lekin ittefaq se vahan stand-up nahi hua, vahan yeh sab hua (roasting). Main mentally teyaar bhi nahi tha iss cheez ke liye,” he shared.

‘What I expected didn’t happen’

Sunil clarified that he would not call the incident a betrayal, but admitted that the situation turned out very differently from what he had imagined before the shoot.“Main isse dhoka toh nahi keh sakta main. Lekin jo maine socha voh vahan nahi hua par jo maine nahi socha tha voh hua (I can’t call it betrayal, but what I expected didn’t happen there, and what I had never expected did happen),” he added.
