Long before Janhvi Kapoor stepped into the movies, she remembers watching her mother, the legendary Sridevi, laugh her heart out at Govinda’s comedy. As Janhvi gears up for the release of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari with Varun Dhawan, she fondly shared how her mother admired the 90s comedy icon and even had a soft spot for Varun after watching him in Judwaa 2.
Sridevi’s love for Govinda’s comedy
Sridevi, who is celebrated for her own impeccable comic timing in films like Chaalbaaz and Mr. India, was, in fact, a Govinda fan first. “Mom used to love his physical comedy and his timing. Every time a Govinda movie came on TV, she would giggle like a child. Honestly, I feel she carried that same comic rhythm in her performances too,” Janhvi recalled in an interview with Pinkvilla.
When Sridevi watched Varun Dhawan in Judwaa 2
The conversation turned emotional when Janhvi revisited her mother’s reaction to Varun Dhawan’s double role in Judwaa 2. “I remember watching it in the theatre with mom and dad. Mom kept saying, ‘He has so much energy, he’s so fresh!’ She was thrilled by him, and I was just watching in awe,” she shared.
For Varun, that memory remains unforgettable. “Meeting her after Judwaa 2 was surreal. To hear the heroine of Chaalbaaz praise me — it meant the world. In fact, when I was preparing for Judwaa 2, dad told me, ‘Study Sridevi’s double role, because that’s the gold standard.’”Now, as Varun and Janhvi reunite after Bawaal, the duo will bring their chemistry back to the big screen in Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, releasing October 2.
