‘Spider-Man’ tracking USD 800 million global debut

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' eyes historic USD 800 million global debut! Tom Holland starrer tracking second-biggest opening after 'Aveners: Endgame'

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, starring Tom Hollland in the lead, will swing into theatres this weekend for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest box office openings in cinema history.According to reports, the superhero film that is in its fourth instalment, is reportedly tracking a USD 800 million worldwide opening weekend. According to Global Box Office, hitting this milestone would give secure the film a spot on the record books as the second-highest global opening of all time, only behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’ which scored a record-breaking USD 1.2 billion launch. This comes amid reports that the film has already secured blockbuster advance ticket sales in various global markets, including India.

Advance bookings soar worldwide

As per the report, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has already crossed USD 60 million in pre-sales in North America, while the film’s worldwide advance bookings have reportedly surpassed USD 120 million, setting it up for a box office shake-down.

‘Spider-Man’ to make box office history

If the current projections hold, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ could collect more than USD 300 million just in the US during its opening weekend while surpassing USD 800 million globally. This would give the film the second-largest worldwide opening weekend in box office history, trailing only ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which set a record when it crossed the USD 1 billion mark in 2019.

‘Spider-Man’ scrores good advance collections

Several box office reports note that this demand is rather unprecedented, outside of the ‘Avengers’ franchise. This anticipation surrounds Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker following the record-breaking success of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. The film was initially tracking a USD 500 million opening; however, ticket sales reportedly soared following the release of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer. The upcoming film also serves as a key chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, adding further momentum to audience interest.

‘Spider-Man’ tracking good opening in India

In several international markets, including India, advance bookings have already set new benchmarks for a Hollywood release, with exhibitors reporting exceptional demand, even with premium ticket pricing. As per sacnilk, the film is tracking a Rs 50-60 crore opening in India, which is also second to ‘Avengers: Endgame’ which earned Rs 65 crore.Opening weekend performance will ultimately depend on audience reception, walk-in ticket sales and good word-of-mouth, besides the advance ticket sales.

‘Spider-Man’ plot

The official logline for the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ sequel states, “It’s a brand new day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him–and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him–sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.”Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, it features Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. The film releases on July 30. Go to Source
