‘Spider-Man’, ‘Ramayana’ to skip IMAX release?

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' skips IMAX release due to 'The Odyssey'; Indian fans notice 'Ramayana' missing from 2026 calendar?

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, the next chapter in the billion-dollar box office blockbuster, will reportedly not release in IMAX theatres next summer. The 2026 IMAX release slate was posted online, however, ‘Spider-Man’ did not make the list, reportedly because all IMAX screens globally have been booked for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic, ‘The Odyssey’.

Spider-Man to miss IMAX release

According to the post shared on X, Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ will exclusively release on IMAX screens and will play from July 17 to August 14, 2026. This will reportedly block the release of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ which is slated for its release on July 31, 2026. The move has sparked disappointment among Marvel fans, however, there’s no denying the enthusiasm for Nolan’s film. Reports reveal that advance bookings for ‘The Odyssey’ are already ‘sold out’ for the IMAX 70mm screenings. Tickets reportedly vanished within hours, with resale prices soaring due to high global demand.

Movie release slate

The 2026 IMAX calendar is already packed, beginning January 23 with ‘Mercy’, starring Chris Pratt, followed by ‘The Bride!’ and ‘Project Hail Mary’ in March, ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ and ‘Michael’ in April, and a summer lineup including ‘Mortal Kombat II’ (May 8), ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ (May 22), ‘Toy Story 5’ (June 19), ‘Supergirl’ (June 26), ‘Minions 3’ (July 1), ‘Moana’ (July 10), and ‘The Odyssey’ (July 17).

Fans react

Meanwhile, Indian fans took to the comments to ask, “What about Ramayana?”Director Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part epic starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana, was reportedly being shot for IMAX, for its Diwali 2026 release. With Diwali falling on November 8, 2026, the current IMAX schedule leaves a window open for ‘Ramayana’, as there are no IMAX releases currently slated during that period. The film will enjoy a two-week solo run before facing competition from ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise of the Reaping’ (November 20) and ‘Narnia’ (November 26). Go to Source
