‘Spider-Man’ eyes Rs 50 crore debut in India

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' eyes Rs 50-60 crore opening in India; Tom Holland starrer to challenge 'Avengers: Endgame' box office record

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is just days away from its release and the film is already shaping up to be one of the biggest Hollywood releases of all time at the Indian box office. The Tom Holland starrer, which is just a week away from its theatrical release on July 30, is already generating significant buzz online, with advance booking reports indicating that the film could just be headed towards a record-breaking start. According to early trade estimates on sacnilk, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is projected to earn between Rs 50 crore and Rs 60 crore gross on Day 1 in India.

‘Spider-Man’ to challenge ‘Avengers: Endgame’ record

If the film opens within the projected range, it could finally dethrone Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which continues to hold the record for the biggest opening day by a Hollywood film in India, with an estimated Rs 65 crore gross on Day 1.While the film will depend on both advance bookings, walk-in audiences and good word of mouth, the current booking trends indicate that ‘Brand New Day’ could become the first Hollywood title in nearly a decade to challenge the ‘Endgame’ record.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ advance bookings

The film has reportedly witnessed extraordinary demand during its pre-release window. According to the report, ‘Brand New Day’ has been selling approximately 2,000 tickets per hour on BookMyShow since advance bookings opened. This momentum has remained consistently strong with the release of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer and buzz that the film will feature a scene linking directly to the events of ‘Doomsday’.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ to have one of the biggest Hollywood debuts

With the film already commanding a huge fan base in the country, it is being categorised as an ‘event film’. Even major Indian film releases rarely generate as much advance sales ahead of its release. With bookings expcted to accelerate during the release week, trade gurus keeping a tab on the box office are reportedly optimistic that the film could deliver one of the strongest Hollywood debuts ever seen in the country.Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ marks Holland’s fourth standalone outing as Peter Parker. The film picks up after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ where the world, including Peter’s best friends forget that he is Spider-Man.Besides tracking a huge opening in India, the film is also tracking a strong global box office debut. According to Box Office Mojo, early tracking models project a massive worldwide opening weekend of around USD 550 million. Domestic (U.S.) projections estimate an opening between USD 225 million and USD 255 million. Go to Source
