‘South Park’ blamed for Charlie Kirk assassination

Charlie Kirk Assassination: ‘South Park’ faces BACKLASH and calls for cancellation over parody episode weeks before shooting

The shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk that led to his death on Wednesday has sparked a wave of criticism against the creators of the animated show ‘South Park’.

South Park controversy

The long-running show drew flack from supporters of the 31-year-old over a recent parody episode, “Got a Nut,” in which Eric Cartman portrayed a version of Kirk and participated in a debate at a school campus. In the clip, the character mimicked his trademark style and mannerisms while conducting debates. The character Cartman was even styled to best represent him. At one point, the character said, “I’m getting really good at this! I have my arguments down rock-solid, these young college girls are totally unprepared so I can just destroy them and, also, edit out all the ones who actually argue back well.”Kirk, was shot in the neck and killed at Utah Valley University, where he was hosting the first event of his “America Comeback Tour.” University spokeswoman Ellen Treanor confirmed that only a single shot was fired.

Critics blame the show

Following his assassination, online criticism mounted against the show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. One supporter posted, “South Park certainly fomented the hatred necessary to get Kirk assassinated.” Another declared, “Trey Parker and Matt Stone are responsible for this.” Calls for cancellation also began to trend on social media. “Hate to say it because I was a South Park fan from day 1, but that show should now be cancelled,” one post read. Another wrote: “So this is how South Park is going to get cancelled.”Some went further, accusing the series of bias sying, “South Park is also to blame for what happened to Charlie Kirk. Not one ‘Biden’ episode for 4 years. Then as soon as Trump is in they literally put him in bed with the devil & add Charlie Kirk to the episode.”

How Kirk responded to the shooting

Despite the parody, Kirk himself had embraced the satire. Ahead of the episode’s airing, he said in a video, “They’re going to obviously make fun of me … but I think it’s kind of funny and it kind of goes to show the cultural impact and the resonance that our movement has been able to achieve.” He added, “We as conservatives should be able to take a joke, we shouldn’t take ourselves so seriously — that’s something that the left has always done.” Following the episode airing on August 6, Kirk later called the parody “hilarious” in a TikTok post dated August 7..

About the shooting

Utah Valley University police chief Jeff Long said six officers were present at the event, which drew 3,000 attendees. Kirk also brought along his private security for the event.US President Donald Trump announced Kirk’s death on his Truth Social platform, writing: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.”

What’s next for the show?

The next episode of South Park is slated to air on Wednesday, September 17. As of now, there has been no announcement from the network regarding any scheduling changes in light of the backlash. Go to Source
