Soha Ali Khan says she doesn’t outsource parenting duties

Soha Ali Khan says she doesn't outsource parenting duties, can't depend on husband Kunal Kemmu: 'If I don't do it, it won't happen'

Soha Ali Khan, known for being a devoted and hands-on mother to her 8-year-old daughter, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu, recently opened up about her parenting style — and why she prefers to handle her morning routine herself rather than rely on her husband, actor-filmmaker Kunal Kemmu. In a candid conversation with Tweak India, Soha admitted that she can’t depend on Kunal to get their daughter ready for school. “I like all of the parent duties. Also, because I like to be in control. If I don’t do it, it won’t happen. If I will send Kunal to wake Inaaya up, they both will be lying in bed till 7:20 am. and I will be like, ‘Guys, school time’. He will be like, ‘Yeah, yeah, it will happen’, and she will pretend to sleep. So I don’t outsource anything. I want to do everything by myself,” she said with a laugh.

While Soha admits she likes things done a certain way, she’s also found a rhythm that allows her some rest — at least on holidays. She revealed that her family understands her need for a bit more sleep, saying, “I told my husband, women need more sleep than men, so he lets me sleep for that extra hour. And Inaaya also knows. So because she goes to bed at least two hours before I go to bed, she gets her full sleep, and I sometimes need that extra half an hour. So she would come and knock to ask if I am awake and that would wake me up. But now often, she very sweetly doesn’t wake me up and finds ways to occupy herself until I wake up, and that little extra half an hour, one hour is very precious.”Earlier, in an interview with SCREEN, Soha had spoken about co-parenting and the challenges that come with her “micromanaging” tendencies. “It’s not always easy. I’ve had to work on not micromanaging everything. I tend to want to do it all myself, which can be frustrating for someone like Kunal who also wants to contribute. We have different styles: I’m rigid about bedtime routines, while he’s more relaxed. I want soft lighting and soothing music; he wants Inaya to figure things out for herself.”Balancing structure and spontaneity, Soha’s parenting approach reflects both her meticulous nature and her evolving effort to share responsibilities with Kunal — even if she still prefers being in charge of the school mornings.
