Singer Shreya Ghoshal gave the Indian women’s cricket team a sweet surprise ahead of their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 opener against Sri Lanka on September 30. Dressed in a brown tracksuit, she visited the Indian dressing room and motivated the players before the match.Spinner Radha Yadav was especially thrilled as the other players branded her a big fan of Ghoshal. The atmosphere was light and cheerful as the team welcomed the singer.

Team starts World Cup campaign with ‘Piyu Bole’

The official BCCI Women’s Twitter account shared a video of Ghoshal in the dressing room. The team crooned along to her famous song, ‘Piyu Bole’ from ‘Parineeta’. Sharing photos and videos, the team captioned the post: “Starting our campaign with melodious vibes. When Shreya Ghoshal visited the #TeamIndia dressing room.”

Ghoshal also performed the official ODI World Cup anthem, ‘Bring It Home’. Interacting with the players, she said, “I’m praying for your victory. The entire country is rooting for your victory.”

Shreya Ghoshal sings Zubeen Garg’s ‘Mayabini’

At Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Shreya Ghoshal could be seen rehearsing for the opening ceremony. In one video, she sang ‘Mayabini’, a popular song by the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. Clips of her rehearsals and performances have already been shared widely on social media, spreading excitement for the match and the ceremony.

Performances at Women’s World Cup 2025 opening

As reported by Economic Times, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that renowned singers Shreya Ghoshal and Papon will perform at the opening ceremony of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 in Guwahati on September 30. The ceremony will also feature a special performance by the Shillong Chamber Choir. In a heartfelt tribute, the event will honour the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, who recently passed away in Singapore.
