Sholay: The Final Cut struggles as Dhurandhar dominates BO

Sholay: The Final Cut box office collection day 2: Dharmendra-Amitabh Bachchan's classic earns just Rs 79 lakh as Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar dominates theatres

Sholay: The Final Cut has opened to an underwhelming response at the box office. Despite the film’s iconic legacy, the re-release registered a low overall occupancy of 13.14 percent and secured just 373 shows across the country, as Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar continues to dominate theatres with its thunderous box office run.

Sholay: The Final Cut box office remains muted

According to Sacnilk, Sholay: The Final Cut earned around Rs 30 lakh on its opening day. On Day 2, it showed a slight improvement, collecting Rs 49 lakh, taking its two-day total to Rs 79 lakh. The re-release had been projected as a massive cinematic event, with the makers announcing on November 15 that the film would hit 1,500 screens across India. However, the actual release footprint turned out to be significantly smaller, impacting footfalls from the outset. Sholay: The Final Cut includes deleted scenes and Sippy’s original dream climax — the much-discussed ending in which Thakur kills Gabbar Singh. The restored version was created by reviving the film’s original 70mm materials, resulting in a 4K restoration with Dolby 5.1 sound. With a runtime of 209.05 minutes, it is longer than the original 1975 theatrical cut. It was also seen as a tribute to Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24. The iconic cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, and Amjad Khan. However, nostalgia and legacy have so far failed to translate into strong box office numbers.

‘Dhurandhar’ Review : Ranveer Singh’s Action Thriller Off To Roaring Start!

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar marches on

In sharp contrast, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar continues its impressive theatrical run. The film has maintained steady momentum even on its ninth day in cinemas. As per live data from Sacnilk, Dhurandhar added another Rs 53 crore India net on Day 9 (second Saturday), taking its total collection to a robust Rs 292.75 crore. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun. Ranveer’s intense avatar has emerged as one of the biggest talking points, helping the film sustain strong audience interest. Go to Source
