Shalini Passi reveals why she refused plastic surgery

Shalini Passi reveals why she refused plastic surgery, recalls taking English classes before shooting for ‘Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives’: ‘I used to stammer’

Shalini Passi, who went viral thanks to her witty one-liners, expressive reactions, and countless memes after appearing in ‘Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives’, has become much more than just a reality show favourite. With her effortless style, unfiltered honesty, and gentle grace, she quickly turned into a viewer favourite who stood out amid all the drama and gossip. But behind the confident woman seen on screen was someone who once battled self-doubt, a stammer, and deep insecurities about her looks.

Shalini Passi wanted to sound cool before filming

In a chat with Humans of Bombay, Shalini revealed that before signing the series, she felt pressured to look and sound different. She shared, “Before signing the series and starting the shoot, I went through a phase where I wanted to be ‘cool’. I was very conscious and told myself, ‘Now that I’m going to face the camera, I can’t look like I’m from the Victorian era.’ Honestly, I even tried learning slang and speaking in a cool manner like everyone else.”

Shalini Passi overcame stammering through English classes

Passi further revealed that she once struggled with speech, “I have been learning English for eight years because I used to stammer and had trouble pronouncing tough words. So I thought it was high time I became ‘cool’, but I just couldn’t.”

Insecurities about her appearance

Despite her grace and confidence, Shalini admitted that she has battled insecurities about her looks. She explained, “I don’t smile too much because I feel my nose is too big. Now, of course, I contour it. But for most of my life, I avoided smiling because I thought it made my nose look even bigger.”She also shared that she often worried about her teeth, “For the longest time, I also believed my teeth looked too yellow because of my fair complexion. But now, I think it actually looks fine on camera.”

Shalini nearly chose plastic surgery in New York

In one of the most touching parts of her story, Shalini shared how close she came to getting plastic surgery, until a conversation with a doctor changed everything. “About 20 years ago, I went to a plastic surgeon in New York,” she recalled. “He looked at me and said, ‘I know why you’re here.’ I asked him, ‘Why?’ and he said, ‘Because of your nose.’ I told him he was right.”The doctor’s next words stopped her in her tracks. “Then he said, ‘Do you know your nose is probably your grandfather’s or your mother’s?’ I told him it was my grandfather’s. He said, ‘Your nose defines your character. I can fix it, but it will change your face, and then it won’t be your face.’”“That conversation made me walk out of the clinic. Ever since that day, I dropped the idea. Now, I proudly carry everything I have inherited from my family.” she said.
