Shahid REACTS to claims of paid trolling against Alia

Shahid Kapoor REACTS to claims of paid trolling against Alia Bhatt's Cannes look: 'Negative aspect is part of job'

Actor Shahid Kapoor has reacted to a film critic’s recent claim that a paid negative PR campaign may have triggered massive trolling against Alia Bhatt following her Cannes Film Festival appearance. During the conversation, Shahid shared his views on industry rumours, manipulation, and the importance of authenticity in showbiz.

Shahid Kapoor on industry rumours and manipulation

In an interview with Anupama Chopra for The Hollywood Reporter India, Shahid Kapoor did not directly comment on her specific allegation, but he opened up about the broader culture of hearsay and gossip in the entertainment industry. Talking about how he deals with such narratives, Shahid said, “I personally never believe anything anybody says unless I am in the room or I saw it myself. I take everything with a pinch of salt, and I think that has gone well for me because when people start believing that you are buying what they’re saying, they can manipulate you. We are people of importance, and we are in a position, so if people are able to shape our perspective, that can be used to create an effect.”

What did Anupama Chopra say about Alia Bhatt?

During the same conversation, the host recalled interviewing Alia Bhatt at Cannes and witnessing the intense trolling that followed her appearance. She claimed that a trusted industry source told her the online negativity was allegedly part of a paid campaign backed by a well-known actor. She suggested that professional rivalries and insecurities within the industry could sometimes be behind such behaviour, though she did not name the actor or provide any evidence to support the claim.

Why Shahid Believes Authenticity Matters More Than Ever

Shahid also spoke about the constant scrutiny that comes with fame. He said, “But it is sad these days a lot is said and there is a pressure to handle, it can get to people. I just feel one should be real. There was a time when people could manipulate perception of people about themselves, but now that time is over.”The actor went on to add, “I feel every artist should know that, even if you are imperfect or insecure, let it show. Let people see who you are. When they feel that you are trying to show them something and you are trying to manipulate them, they get pissed off.”He concluded his words saying, “It comes with the job. The money and the fame is a part of the job along with the negative aspect. And that’s how life balances itself sometimes, that with all that love can come that much negativity.”
