Sanjay Gupta calls Dhurandhar 2-Toxic BO clash ‘unfortunate’

Sanjay Gupta calls Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar 2 and Yash's Toxic box office clash 'unfortunate': 'Both films will do well but...'

Two of the most-awaited films of the year — Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Toxic: A Fairytale for Adults — are gearing up for a major box office clash on March 19. While trade circles are buzzing about their potential earnings, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta believes the inevitable face-off may hurt both films.Speaking to Variety India, Gupta reflected on how such clashes often dilute business instead of boosting it.

“Our people don’t have money flowing”

Drawing from his own experience of Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees, he said both films would have benefited from a solo release.“Our people don’t have money flowing that they can just go and watch two films back-to-back. There are many people who can’t watch two films in one month. It’s unnecessary, but again, the makers probably have their reasons,” he stated. While Gupta himself plans to watch both, he feels the larger audience may have to make a choice.

“It’s unfortunate”

Predicting that both films will find success, Gupta, however, raised concerns about their full potential.“Both films will do well, but neither will accomplish their individual capacity. So, it’s unfortunate,” he added.Gupta also showered praise on the Aditya Dhar directorial and hinted at what lies ahead for Ranveer Singh’s character. “I have a vague idea of where the story is going to go and all of that. We’re going to have Hamza’s backstory, why he became who he is, and all of that. See, Dhurandhar is a phenomenon,” he shared.

On the other hand, Yash-starrer Toxic has already grabbed attention for its ensemble cast, including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, and Tara Sutaria. With both big-ticket films eyeing a March 19 release, the countdown has begun — but whether the clash will create fireworks or divide the audience remains to be seen. Go to Source
